Discussions on the creation of “men’s maternity leave” .
At the National Strategic Special Zone Working Group of the Cabinet Office, we called for the creation of “male maternity leave”.
Our wishes have come true over the years. At a meeting of the Labor Policy Council, which is concerned with the working style of the country, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare proposed that men can also take eight weeks off after giving birth, which should also be called male maternity leave.

They has arranged for them to be able to work a little or take a split leave. Now he have to tell them a month in advance of requesting leave, but they are trying to change that to two weeks and set the system in a direction that makes it easier to take leave.
However, KEIDANREN(Japan Business Federation)and small business trade associations are vehemently opposed to it. They insisted on filing a month in advance, and also said that doing so would be very damaging to small businesses.
If a company can’t run its business without free-riding and overburdening its employees’ families, they should all go out of business, right? And as a small business owner as well, I think.
I don’t know why the labor union is so vehemently opposed to it. I’ve been working on “Ikumen Project”( for about 10 years now, and I don’t remember they ever creating a positive movement for men to participate in child rearing. If that’s the case, I want to say, what’s the point of their existence?
Well, I am opposed from all sides, but I definitely want to make it happen.
I want to reduce the number of mothers who are thrown into solo parenting right after birth.
I want to reduce the number of fathers who let their wives do the solo parenting and think it’s natural for them to do so, and I want to reduce the number of companies that want their employees to have that attitude.
So, thank you all for your support.
